Finalisation of Nauru’s Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Framework (RONAdapt)

ANZDEC is engaged by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) to finalise Nauru’s Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Framework (RONAdapt). SPC is assisting with the finalisation of RONAdapt through the Global Climate Change Alliance: Pacific Small Island States project funded by European Union, and the Coping with Climate Change in the Pacific Island Region program implemented in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Nauru is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change including sea level rise, coastal and inland flooding, prolonged droughts, higher sea surface temperature and increasing ocean acidification. Starting in 2010, the Nauru Government has been working to develop the Republic of Nauru Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Framework (RONAdapt) to set out an overall framework for managing these risks to sustainable development.

The assignment will commence in November and end in December 2013. RONAdapt will inform the future preparation of a Climate Change Policy for Nauru.
